The friendly match of Colombia vs. Venezuela at Hard Rock Stadium on September 7th was just the latest match of international soccer being played in the US. Sponsored by CMN Sports and Relevant marketing, the Colombia vs. Venezuela match was a highly anticipated one. Fans from both sides flocked to Hard Rock Stadium dressed in their team colors and I was there to capture it all.
Pricing your photography; a constant battle most photographers have to fight on the regular. It’s a landmine of questions such as how to price your photography services or how much you should charge for a photograph. There is no easy way to determine what to charge as each photographer is different and has placed different values on their work. And once a photographer sets his or her’s prices then there is the constant haggling from potential customers that a photographer has to deal with. Pricing your photography and trying to stick those prices is a roller coaster ride of emotions within a photographer and it’s almost daily.
The December night air was brisk and teeming with anticipation. The scent of different meats cooking on open flames engrossed the stadium parking lots. A sea of red, blue, teal and orange jerseys converged on Hard Rock Stadium; here to witness the impending battle of two NFL teams that harkens back to the old, Roman gladiator days. Monday night football has it’s own unique aura about it. It’s own mystique where legends and heroes are created. And then there is me, a sports photographer photographing the Patriots, my hometown team, against the Miami Dolphins for Monday night supremacy.
The saying that every week in the NFL is different is true. The Miami Dolphins vs New York Jets game couldn’t have been the complete opposite of the Dolphins vs. Titans game just two weeks ago. This game had big plays on both sides of the ball, an injury to major player for the Dolphins and not to mention the 14 point come from behind victory the Dolphins had over their hated rivals, the Jets.
With Miami Hurricanes coming off two come from behind victories against Florida State and Georgia Tech it seemed like the match up against Syracuse would provide the same drama. Just a week prior the Syracuse Orange knocked off the number 2 team in the country, Clemson. And truth be told, it wasn’t necessarily drama, but it did take the full game for the Miami Hurricanes to defeat Syracuse.
The Miami Hurricanes vs Georgia Tech game was filled with last minute drama as the Canes came back to win the game with a last minute field goal by kicker Michael Badgley. Of course how can one forget the torrential downpour in the 4th quarter that made the field and surrounding sidelines a gigantic kiddie pool. In theory it was just a typical day in the life of a Miami sports photographer.
With the NBA season a mere weeks away from starting, the Miami Heat held their media day at the American Airlines Arena. Miami Heat media day is the unofficial start to the NBA season where players and coaches hold interviews with various media outlets as well as pose for their official portraits. It does feel good to know that basketball is right around the corner.
Week 2 of the NFL preseason brings me the opportunity to photograph the Miami Dolphins vs the Baltimore Ravens. It was another hot and humid night at the Hard Rock Stadium. Hell, even my camera was sweating as I photographed the action between the two teams.
When you’re a Miami sports photographer you really never have an off or down season. There is always something to photograph sports wise. My latest assignment has been to photograph the Miami FC soccer club. This would be my first time photographing soccer, so I was really excited about it.
