Album Cover Photo Shoot in the Everglades

When Camille Kaye came to me asking me to photograph her album cover for her new album, Solstice, I already knew where I wanted to shoot it, in the Everglades. I’ve worked with Camille numerous times before and we have a good rapport when it comes to me photographing her so I knew this time would be no different. We had a tight schedule and a very small window to get the shoot it, but like other times before we were able to make it happen and boy did we ever.

Since Camille’s debut album was called Solstice and was released on June 21st, the summer solstice, it was only natural we incorporate the sun into her photo shoot. We agreed to shoot at sunset out on the edge of the Everglades at this little place I like to visit. I would tell y’all where it is but then it won’t be my secret spot anymore.

On the afternoon of the shoot it was raining like crazy. It poured all the way till I got to the location. When I arrived the rain stopped and rainbows were popping up in the sky and I knew we had some magic to work with before the sunset off in the distance. While I waited for Camille to arrive as she was also stuck in some nasty rain, I met a gentleman by the name of Rod who was a local resident. We began talking about photography and he was telling me he only shot in black and white film and that these days anyone with a good camera phone was a camera. Although I could not disagree with him, I kept the conversation polite. It wasn’t until I pulled out my 70-200 and my beauty dish that Rod said I wasn’t playing about being a photographer. Of course I think he was more interested in Camille than the gear I brought out to photograph Camille.

With Miami Elite Events sponsoring Camille’s new album and Rod hanging around, we had a nice little audience for the shoot. We only had about an hour of good light before the sun dipped into the horizon so I was scrambling to make sure we got all the shots. We all had a great time and Rod was sure to give us his opinion on the shots he liked etc. We didn’t stay long for once the sun went down all the eagle sized mosquitoes came out of nowhere and began to feast on us.

Don’t forget to check out Camille’s new album on her website.
