Taking photos is difficult enough but trying to take maternity photos in the middle of summer in Miami is just brutal; however, Kia and Hayward were up for the task. The humidity was no joke that day. Thank God I suggested we shoot around 6:30 in the evening. I don’t even want to begin to think what a midday shoot in that sun would be like.
I met up with Kia and Hayward at a Starbucks on Ocean Drive in South Beach. We walked out to this rock wall and began out photo shoot there. I was trying to be quick and efficient. If I was this hot I could only imagine how Kia felt carrying a child. I tried to stick to as much shade as possible. I just let those two interact with each other and I just captured the moment. I will admit that I did miss the shot of Hayward twirling Kia around as if they were ballroom dancing and my excuse was I slipped in some sand and I looked down and I missed the shot. That is my story and I’m sticking to it.
After we finished shooting around the rock wall, they wanted to take some photos out by the water. I figure it was 7:00pm and the beach would be emptying out but I could not have been more wrong. The beach was packed. It was hard to find a location by the water where I could shoot them without other people in the shot. We found a semi-empty spot on the beach but there was this one guy who’s belly was bigger than Kia’s who was always in every shot. I tried having Kia and Hayward mask them but he and his belly kept popping out.
