This past weekend’s Miami Hurricanes game was a special one. Carter Hucks had his Make-A-Wish Foundation wish come true. Carter wanted to meet his idol Duke Johnson of the Miami Hurricanes and practice with the team. For 3 days, Carter was able to practice with the team and on game day, Carter led the team out of the tunnel as well was the honorary captain. His wish came true and then some.
It was bittersweet to photograph the last Miami Hurricanes home game this past weekend and even more for the graduating seniors who participated in Senior Day. Senior Day is typically the last home game of the season and there is a little pageantry that occurs before the pregame introductions with the families of the graduating seniors. The real story from this game wasn’t Senior Day or the Hurricanes victory over the Virginia Cavaliers, but the weather. I always wanted to shoot in the rain, but there is a limit to how much rain.
Going into the Miami Hurricanes and Wake Forest game, it felt different. The Hurricanes were 6-0 and ranked #7 in the BCS standings. Earlier in the week the punishment from the NCAA had come down and the Miami Hurricanes basically came away unscathed and this game against the Demon Deacons was suppose to be the warmup game to the FSU game which will be the next game. I won’t lie I was excited to get into the stadium and shoot.
Another Saturday afternoon spent at Sunlife Stadium to photograph the University of Miami Hurricanes football team and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Nothing beat college football. The marching bands in the stands supplying the rallying songs, the fans screaming and shouting and don’t forget about the action on the field. Just another glorious Saturday.
Did you ever get a bad feeling before something even happened or started? I had that feeling when I saw the Savannah State football team warming up for their game against the University of Miami Hurricanes. Those poor kids from Savannah State were too slow and too small to compete with the University of Miami Hurricanes. Hey least they got $350k just to play the Hurricanes.
The Miami Hurricanes vs the Florida Gators. I mean does it get any bigger than that in the 2nd week of the college football season? I would be excited to just watch it on TV, so you could image how hyped up I was that I had the opportunity to be on the sidelines photographing it.
Another football season is upon and how glorious it is. Thanks to the Sports Brothers I have another opportunity to photograph the Miami Hurricanes Football games this year at Sunlife Stadium. I’m excited to photograph the Miami Hurricanes this year not because I’ve a huge fan, ok that is a big reason, but because I have the opportunity to photograph some amazing athletes playing the great sport of football.
I won’t lie, I’m really enjoying photographing these UM games. This week’s game was UM vs. Virginia Tech. Two teams that always play hard against each other and also a vital game in the ACC standings. What made it even better was that it was a night game and the temps were in the high ’60s.
UM vs. FSU. Is there anymore that needs to be said? One of the great rivalries in all of college football. The best part for me was that I had the best seats in the house to watch it; right on the field.
